Patio Sets with Fire Pit Table

A popular trend in outdoor furniture in the past couple of years is the fire pit table. A patio set with fire pit table seems to be in every second back yard and pool area, and it’s a great way to get friends and neighbors to gather.

First in the outdoor fire trend was the chiminea, but with stores like Costco offering very affordable and attractive patio sets and outdoor furniture, there has been an increase in popularity of the fire pit table. Fire pits, of course, have traditionally been dug at places like cottages or campgrounds, and have now gentrified somewhat by becoming part of chic and upscale patio sets. Fire pit tables allow for a campfire feel right on your patio or deck, and replace the chiminea, which some feel has now become a little cliché.

A fire pit table is an outdoor coffee table constructed of heavy-duty fireproof material, often cast iron or other metals, and often with slate tiles, stone or marble on top. There is a normal ‘patio table’ surface, and an inner circle or square with a pit containing a fireproof lining. You will find fire pit tables come with warnings and instructions specific to their manufacturer and materials, so always use carefully. There are those which use coals and even gas fire pits.

A patio set with a fire pit table is a great place to roast marshmallows or kebabs, but also can be a conversation piece and just a good, relaxing place to hang out with friends. It’s a safe way to have a fire in your backyard, pool deck or garden, although you should always remember to ensure the fire is dead before turning in for the night. You can also buy fire pit covers in mesh or metal to help increase safety, especially if there are small children around.

TIP: When you’re not using the fire pit niche for its original purpose, it can double as a convenient cooler; just add ice and drinks so everyone can reach into the middle and enjoy a cold beverage!
